About the event

Edward Dusinberre, first violinist of the Takacs Quartet, gives a free preconcert talk about the Quartet's concert to be performed at Simms Auditorium on January 22 at 3pm.  The featured works, by Benjamin Britten, Bela Bartok and Antonin Dvorak, were written during, or immediately after, long sojourns in American by the composers.  Mr. Dusinberre explains how the composers' sense of distance from home can be heard in these works.  He has also addressed this theme in a new book, Distant Melodies, just published by University of Chicago Press and (in the U.K.) by Faber.   This is Mr. Dusinberre's second book: his first, Beethoven for a Later Age, was published to great acclaim in 2016.
